The Akerselva Torchlight Festival

Experience «Elvelangs», Oslo’s magical annual torchlight festival. and one of Oslo’s most magical evenings when the city turns off the lights and lets the river shine. Elvelangs is a 25+ year old Oslo-tradition celebrated .

On the Thursday evening, closest to the autumn equinox, the electric lights along the Akerselva River are replaced by more than 4,500 torches. This year that date is Thursday, 24 September 2026, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, The entire 8 km riverside route, stretching from Brekkedammen at Frysja in the north to Olafiagangen at Vaterland near the city centre, comes alive with approximately 150 cultural performances and art installations.

As you walk downstream, you can discover atmospheric light displays, fire art, dance performances, live music and creative installations presented by both professional artists and local community groups. The event offers a unique opportunity to experience Oslo from a different perspective.

Elvelangs by Torchlight is a free public event organised by the City of Oslo. Visitors can join the walk at any point along the route, although it is highly recommended to walk downstream toward the city centre. Several main stages with opening performances also serve as great starting points for first-time visitors.

You can find the full program and practical information (NO) at elvelangs.no or their Facebook-page.
