69 is an artist-run exhibition space that primarily presents Oslo-based artists under the banner of “locally sourced art” (as a way of supporting local ecosystems). The gallery highlights significant artistic practices within a diverse art scene, showcasing work that is not always visible within the spheres of interest of other galleries and museums—featuring both emerging and established artists. We aim to make 69 a meeting place for artists and audiences, fostering professional dialogue and discussion.
Since its founding in 2004, the gallery has evolved into a hybrid of exhibition space and important meeting place, where local, self-organized, and well-established professionals have contributed to creating a rich program and network with both national and international reach.
Looking ahead, we will actively use the gallery spaces (including the office) to explore temporary experiments and processes that carry as much social significance as encounters with contemporary art. We see this as an opportunity to develop new and exciting ways of working with the gallery as a space for relational practice, across invited artists, curators, and other art professionals. This is also motivated by a desire to offer an alternative to the increasing commercialization of exhibition spaces in Oslo. 69 is a part of Lufthavna Cultural house.
